Patient and Family Support Fund
The Patient and Family Support Fund was established to help cancer patients who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of their diagnosis. Cancer patients often cannot afford the basic necessities such as travel, accommodations, and meals, when receiving their treatment.
Between 2010-2014, the Cancer Care Foundation has assisted over 2,340 cancer patients and their families, disbursing over $669,000. The Fund is generously supported by donors and corporate sponsors such as Scotiabank, North Atlantic, The Power of Life Project and Shoppers Drug Mart.
This fund makes a real difference in the lives of cancer patients, as demonstrated by the testimonials below:
“My husband has been diagnosed with bone cancer. He has to travel to and from Corner Brook for 6 chemotherapy treatments. Your donation is very much appreciated. It will help out with that cost. Thank you so much. Our Thanks to all those who have donated to the Patient and Family Support Fund.”
-Wife of a Cancer Patient in Corner Brook, Newfoundland
“On behalf of our family, we would like to thank you for your support and kindness during this difficult time. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that there are so many people with such big hearts that reach out to people in need. Thank you.
– Newfoundland Family on the recent support received from the Patient and Family Support Fund
“It is so difficult in SO many ways to hear “you have cancer,” but to know that you cannot afford cancer only adds to the feeling of being more afraid – afraid because of the added burden of financial stress (like you aren’t dealing with enough already). A great big thank you to people like you – who recognize all of this and help someone like me.”
– Cancer Patient, Newfoundland
